SUNDAY SAUCE PLAYOFF PREVIEW
This is Mack’s Sunday Sauce comin’ at ya! Always fresh, never stirred, where I’m here to give you your weekly dose of anything goes, no filter FANTASY FOOTBALL advice.
It feels like only yesterday we were getting ready for fantasy drafts and pondering about what would happen with Ezekiel Elliot and his suspension, whether or not he was going to be worth that first round pick. Also pondering about the rookies coming into the league and which would be making an impact, and which vets were still worth that early round pick. In the blink of an eye, we are into Week 14 of the NFL, and the first week of the fantasy playoffs for standard leagues. Mack needs to get bold this week! As I always say, go with your gut, play your studs, and don't get cute! Unfortunately, sometimes "playing a match-up" in fantasy football is risky, but could be rewarding (if you want to call this getting cute). This week, we are going to switch things up and take a look at some studs, 'boom or bust' studs and some younger, 2017 consistent players with some very tough NFL Fantasy playoff match-ups in Weeks 14-15 and weigh your options of whether or not you may want to consider another body with a more favorable match-up in that slot at some point throughout the playoffs. But remember, while the sauce is always delicious, sometimes you just gotta go with that 'Five Guys Burger, Shake & Fries on a Friday' of a gut.
1. Leonard Fournette, RB - Jacksonville Jaguars
Week 14 vs. Seattle Seahawks
Week 15 vs. Houston Texans
If you can sneak into the championship with this rookie sensation, he'll be sitting pretty against the lowly San Francisco 49ers in Week 16. But boy, does the rook have his work cut out for him until then. This week, Jacksonville will host Seattle who are giving up the fourth least fantasy points to opposing RB's through 13 week and then he gets Houston in Week 15, giving up the third least fantasy points to opposing RB's. Separately, not taking anything away from the young stunner, but Fournette has definitely slowed down since coming back from injury in Week 10. Since then, he's had tough games against Arizona and LAC, and played well against Cleveland and Indianaplois. If this trend continues, he may be in for a tough week 14 vs. Seattle and week 15 vs. Houston. While he is a focal point of the offense and his workload alone usually makes him fantasy relevant weekly, one should manage their expectations this week against the Seahawks and next week vs the Texans. Both with very tough, experienced run D's that know how much Jacksonville depends on Fournette. This week, Fournette falls outside of the top 10 for me and will be in the 8-10 range in Week 15. It's unfortunate that his owners draw such tough match-ups in the fantasy playoffs. The usual RB1 falls into RB2/Flex consideration for the next few playoff weeks.
BOLD STATLINE PREDICITON VS. SEATTLE: 20 CARRIES, 64 YARDS // 3 RECEPTIONS, 28 YARDS
BOLD STATLINE PREDICTION VS. HOU: 22 CARRIES, 80 YARD, 1 TD // 3 RECEPTIONS, 17 YDS
2. Doug Baldwin, WR - Seattle Seahawks
Week 14 @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Week 15 vs. Los Angeles Rams
The veteran Doug Baldwin is now in his 7th NFL season; a class act out of Stanford University that has emerged as one of the most clutch in the game over the past five years. He is usually all over the field and is surely Russell Wilson's number one go to receiver. In Week 14, the Seahawks head to Jacksonville, where Mr. Baldwin will be going up against the number one defense in football, who are specifically giving up the least fantasy points to receivers through 13 weeks as well. The defensive unit in Jacksonville has been boasted about, and they have shut down may stud receivers this year. What do i think this means for Doug Baldwin? He dropsto a flex from a WR2, and unless you definitely have a better matchup, Baldwin will leave his guts on the field that day if he needs to in order to catch some balls in this top team duel both at 8-4. But manage expectations for a monster week. He may have a single digit fantasy day on Sunday. The following week, the Seahawks will host the Rams. They are giving up the sixth least fantasy points to WR's as well, and they held him to 4 catches on 37 yards in their first divisional match this season. But Baldwin isn't a regular receiver, he'll be looking to improve from that game, and will study the tapes. He'll line up in the slot, out wide, you never really know. He remains in a WR2 category that week, and is a man you can also feel comfortable trying to fit in your lineup at flex if you don't have a better option, even against this new found stingy Jacksonville secondary this week.
BOLD STATLINE PREDICTION @ JACKSONVILLE: 4 CATCHES, 59 YARDS
BOLD STATLINE PREDICTION VS. LA RAMS: 6 CATCHES, 70 YARDS, 1 TD
3. Jared Goff, QB – St. Louis Rams
Week 14 vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Week 15 @ Seattle Seahawks
Mr. Goff is a top 10 fantasy QB in 2017 after 13 weeks. Not many would have believed this would happen, but the man is positively coming into his own as a pro QB. But, we hit the fantasy playoffs, and him and his fighting Rams will host the Eagles this week and then head to Seattle in Week 15. While Goff may end up in a shootout vs. Philly, the following week will be tough heading to Seattle. Goff is a young QB on the road to take his team to the playoffs, but it won't come easy with the Eagles and Seahawks in their way consecutively. Although both defenses he is going up against are in the top 11 defending the QB in fantasy football, Goff has been patient and has been making good decisions. As good as the Eagles are, their secondary runs into problems at times, and Goff may have what it takes to keep up with Carson Wentz on Sunday. The following week, I would be alot more conservative with Goff when his Rams head to CenturyLink Field. The Rams are giving up the eight least fantasy points to opposing QB's and are in the top 5 defending the QB at home. Goff falls outside of the top 10 for me in week 15, and may want to look for a flier with a nice match-up like Marcus Mariota vs. San Francisco for your semi-final matchup. Overall, one should manage their expectations with the second year stud in the fantasy playoffs in 2017.
BOLD STATLINE PREDICTION VS. PHILADELPHIA: 278 YARDS, 2 TD'S, 1 INT
BOLD STATLINE PREDICTION @ SEATTLE: 236 YARDS, 1 TD, 2 INT'S
